What are your working hours?

Niidumeister generally works on weekdays from 8 AM to 8 PM. We often start much earlier and usually finish well after that. We frequently work weekends and occasionally even on public holidays. We've even worked through the night.

We once rescued a film crew on a Sunday morning at 6 AM because the company that was supposed to mow the lawn simply didn't show up. We've also had to trim dance floors on Midsummer's Eve, among other things.

Can't find the right service on our list?

We've done a huge variety of jobs and custom solutions. We've built raised beds for greenhouses, decorated Christmas trees, repaired and replaced gutter brackets, built fences, and constructed small decks. If you need something that isn't explicitly on our service list, feel free to ask — we may well be able to help. And even if we can't, we can likely recommend a good contractor, since over the years we've built a useful network of fellow tradespeople.

Maintenance contract or one-off mowing?

A maintenance contract is the simpler and more convenient option — it means we keep track of when your lawn needs mowing. You can always adjust the mowing frequency on the fly if the agreed interval doesn't feel right.

If you choose a one-off order, please allow up to one week from order to completion, since we need to coordinate with existing commitments and logistics to fit your lawn into our mowing route.

How often should the lawn be mowed?

During the spring growing season, the lawn should be mowed at least once a week — for the best results, even every five days. In midsummer, mowing every 14 days is usually sufficient, and during dry spells you should mow as needed.

How tall should the grass be after mowing?

Accepted Answer

During the fast spring growth period, the grass can be left at about 4–5 cm. In summer, when the sun is intense, it's better to leave it a bit longer — around 6–8 cm.

When is the right time to aerate the lawn?

Accepted Answer

The best time to aerate is in spring, once the snow has melted and the ground has dried out slightly. The soil is still relatively soft at that point, so the aerator can easily open up air channels to the grass roots.

Is lawn aeration and fertilizing really necessary?

Accepted Answer

Aeration and fertilizing ensure a beautiful, strong lawn. Even if your grass already looks good, it's still worth aerating and fertilizing, because fixing problems later can be significantly more difficult and expensive.

Does paver washing remove weeds growing between the stones?

Accepted Answer

Niidumeister offers a hot-water pressure washing service that also destroys plant roots, but it's not a 100% guaranteed solution and costs considerably more than cold-water washing.

We recommend spraying weeds between pavers with herbicide before washing — this ensures the pavers stay clean much longer. If you prefer not to use chemicals in your garden, hot-water pressure washing is the best alternative.

Does paver washing remove oil stains?

Unfortunately, pressure washing alone does not remove oil stains, though it can make them significantly lighter. If you want to remove oil stains from pavers, a special chemical treatment is needed. Keep in mind that the sooner you address oil stains, the better the end result will be.

When should hedges be trimmed?

Accepted Answer

Deciduous hedges are usually trimmed 2–3 times during the summer. Each time, about 1/2 to 1/3 of the new growth is cut back.

Evergreen hedges are typically trimmed once a year — in autumn. The best time is considered to be August–September.

Niidumeister recommends clearing leaves in autumn, as this prevents lawn damage that can occur over winter.

When is the best time to oil a deck?

Accepted Answer

When oiling a deck, you should consider rainfall, temperature, and pollen levels. The ideal window is usually from mid-May to September. The average daily temperature should be at least +10 °C.

Can you restore a deck that hasn't been maintained for over 5 years?

Accepted Answer

For heavily neglected decks, we first assess the condition of the boards and joists. If the wood is rotted, it makes more sense to replace the decking rather than try to restore it.
